Empowerment

Giving access to possibilities - that is what empowerment is all about. Through effective education and training programs, knowledge and skills are provided. These are the tools to open new doors, giving access to possibilities.

And we know that empowered knowledgeable workers are the key to a more productive corporation. We know that empowered knowledgeable citizens are the key to a more vibrant democratic society.

Effective learning encompasses three key learning modes:

Learning by Absorbing: This traditional content-oriented approach to learning, which consists of a learner "receiving" a presentation of material. This independent approach could be in the form of a lecture, a video, text, or online tutorial.

Learning by Interacting with Others: In this social approach to learning, learners acquire knowledge by interacting with other learners and from instructor/facilitators. Learning communities, and online virtual communities make this collaborative mode work.

Learning by Doing: The experimental/experiential approach allows learners to "discover" and construct knowledge themselves. This practice-oriented approach is often done through simulations, scenarios, and on-the-job projects.

Of course, none of these approaches is "right", and none stands alone. The right blend depends of the learner audience, the content domain, and the organizational culture. Ken Reimer's experience in designing the right blends has worked for numerous international, governmental, and corporate clients.
