Entrepreneurship

Taking an idea and building it into a profitable business is an extraordinary challenge. At each stage, the challenges are different from the previous stage, and the focus changes in order to transition to the next level.

Ken's first entrepreneurial venture was Training Systems International (TSI), a Calgary-based computer skills training and consulting firm operating in the 1980's. That initial taste of operating a business was a catalyst for further successful and exciting business ventures.

LearnStream, the most successful venture to date, was created by Ken in 1998, after attracting $2.1 million to finance the leveraged buyout and establish the working capital needed for the startup. Market entry into the US was facilitated by setting up a Washington DC office to focus on the east coast. The European success was focused around the International Development organizations and the UN agencies in Geneva Switzerland.

The 150-strong team conceived and built creative learning solutions for blue-ribbon clients in a number of sectors including, IT, finance, defense, health, manufacturing, and international development.

LearnStream was sold in 2005 to a Toronto-based investor who rolled it into a group of media and elearning companies.

Ken now provides consulting services for entrepreneurs, and serves as a Director on a number of boards.
